Burglary Prevention
I just moved to a new big city which I’m not going to name. About 3 weeks after I moved in, the local police department held a seminar on how to prevent home burglaries. The officer pointed out that most residential burglaries happen while people are away at work. I work nights at the local hospital, so that actually scared me a bit. The last thing I want is to have someone break in to my place while I’m asleep.
The officer did suggest getting a wide-angle peep hole so I can see if anyone at the door has company with them. He suggested that every valuable item have a number inscribed on it as well as taking photos of everything for my insurance company. Those are easy and I’ll do them this weekend.
He also suggested that I put a couple of lights on timers including my front door light so that it looks like I’m home even when I’m not. After the seminar, I spoke to the officer. Upon his recommendation, I signed up for home security services from click now. Now I don’t have to worry about coming home early in the morning or sleeping during the day. He also said that if I let my insurance company know, I may get a discount. I hope I will and I’ll let you know how that goes.
