Posted October 5th, 2011 by admin and filed in Tips

It’s been a year of natural disasters that have made headlines here and all around the globe: hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, earthquakes and even the Tsunami that devastated a large area in Japan. Throughout the United States, many states have been affected with natural disasters, reminding us that natural disasters can strike anywhere at any time. When it comes to natural disasters and your homeowners insurance it’s vital that you are clear on exactly what you are covered for.

As a guideline, insurance companies may cover, fire, wind and storm damage, hail and other perils such as theft and explosions. Flood, tsunami and earthquake are not included in standard homeowners insurance policies. FL flood insurance is available through the federal Government’s National Flood Insurance Program, and can often be purchased through the insurance agents who arrange your standard homeowners insurance. Earthquake insurance is usually available from regular insurance providers as a separate policy.

If you do live in an area prone to floods, earthquakes, tornadoes or hurricanes, it’s important to check your specific policy to see if you are covered (and for how much). And always feel free to contact one of our insurance agents who will be able to offer their professional advice.
